RYANAIR B-737
Boeing secured a order from Ireland-based low cost carrier Ryanair, one of the few remaining all-Boeing airlines, for 175 Next-Generation 737-800s for the airline's fleet expansion.
When finalized, the agreement will be worth $15.6 billion.
The deal, signed in New York on Tuesday, will allow Ryanair to increase its fleet to 400 planes from 300 at present, as old planes are retired.
The 737NG family includes the -600, -700, -800 and -900 series of Boeing’s 737 short-to-medium range, narrow-body airliners. Its main competitor is the Airbus A320.
Ryanair has also opted CFM56-7BE jet engines to power its Boeing 737-800 airplanes. Pending shareholder approval, the engine order is valued at $3.7 billion U.S. at list price.
Lion Air of Indonesia dealt a blow to Boeing by switching to rival Airbus in a $24 billion order for 234 Airbus A320 jets, announced yesterday.
