Inaugurating the FAA - Asia Pacific bilateral partners’ meeting hosted by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Indian Aviation Minister Ajit Singh has said efforts will be made to get HAL’s Advance Light Helicopter (ALH-Dhruv) to be certified by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
FAA is the national aviation authority of United States. FAA certification is the world's highest and toughest aircraft certification process.
FAA certification ensures the aircraft meets the highest safety standards, from initial design to retirement.
The three-day meet organized by Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) with the main focus on the aircraft certification, provides an opportunity for partner Civil Aviation Authorities (CAAs) from 11 countries to share methods for strengthening bilateral airworthiness relationships through enhanced resource sharing, communications and procedural improvements. It also seeks future direction for aircraft certification and international collaboration.
Apart from the delegates from the USA, the participating Asia-Pacific countries include Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and hosts India.
The indigenously built ALH is a multi-role, multi-mission helicopter in 5.5 ton class, fully designed and developed by HAL. Built to FAR 29 specifications, Dhruv is designed to meet the requirement of both military and civil operators.
ALH incorporates a number of advanced technologies like Integrated Dynamic System (IDS) , Anti-resonance Vibration Isolation System (ARIS) , Full Authority Digital Electronic Control (FADEC) , Hingeless Main Rotor, Bearing less Tail Rotor and Automatic Flight Control System.
It has been exported to Israel, Nepal and Ecuador. HAL unveiled the armed variant of Dhruv named Rudra at Aero India 2013.
