Rolls-Royce's Trent 1000 turbofan engine has been selected by Singapore Airlines Group to power its 50 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircrafts on order. The announcement, which includes long-term TotalCare® service support, is worth $4 billion at current list prices.
Thirty Boeing 787-10X aircraft will be operated by Singapore Airlines. The airline's subsidiary, Scoot will operate 10 Boeing 787-8 and 10 Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
The Trent 1000 powered Boeing 787 Dreamliner entered service in October 2011 and has completed more than 50,000 flying hours with a 99.9% dispatch reliability - a record for a widebody engine.
The Trent 1000 delivers the best fuel burn performance on the aircraft and is designed to meet the thrust requirements for all versions of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The Singapore Airlines order for the Boeing 787-10X is conditional on Boeing formally launching the programme.
Developed from the earlier Trent series engines, Trent 1000 is a 3 shaft high bypass ratio, axial flow, turbofan with multi stage compressors driven by seperate multi stage turbines through coaxial shafts.
Its thrust ranges from 265.3KN (59631lbf) to 331.4KN (74511lbf) through six engine variants.
The slower fan speed and low jet velocity of the Trent 1000 reduce noise. The continued development of the tiled combuster, first used on the Trent 900, reduces emissions of CO 2 and NOx.
The Trent 1000 is a bleedless engine to suit the requirements of the more electric Boeing 787.
The Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 has been ordered by Air Astana, Air China, Air Europa, Air New Zealand,Air Niugini, Arkia, ANA, Avianca, Aviation Capital Group, British Airways, CIT, Delta, ILFC, LAN, LOT, Norwegian, Royal Brunei, Virgin Atlantic.
