Taiwan has deployed a powerful multiple-launch rocket system on Matsu island that could reach China’s Fujian province across the Taiwan Strait, to guard against any amphibious adventure by China, local media reported.
The rocket system called Ray Ting 2000 or "Thunderbolt 2000 developed by Taiwan's military research unit Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology (CSIST) has been deployed.
The accurate Ray Ting Artillery Multiple Launch Rocket System is designed to fire against amphibious assault and to enhance the firepower of conventional tube artillery.
The latest Mk45 variant can launch 40 rockets in a minute with a range of 45 kilometers.
The Mk45 can destroy small landing craft and damage large sized ships.
Ray-Ting 2000 launcher with self-reload crane is mounted on a high mobility 8X8 cargo truck.
The sealed rocket pod design reduces reloading time and also lowers the maintenance requirement and eases stockpile.
Ray-Ting 2000 launcher is equipped with fully automatic fire control system, elevation and azimuth driven systems, and position and direction determining system.
Ray Ting is replacing Taiwan's existing Kung Feng VI 117mm rocket system.
