A Boeing 787 Dreamliner passenger jet operated by Ethiopian Airlines caught fire at Britain's Heathrow airport on Friday. The cause of the minor internal fire is being investigated.
Television footage showed the Dreamliner surrounded by foam used by firefighters. Heathrow briefly closed both its runways to deal with the fire.
The aircraft was parked on a remote parking stand. There were no passengers on board. Arrivals and departures were temporarily suspended while airport fire crews attended to this incident. The BBC reported that the plane on fire at Heathrow was the first 787 Dreamliner to resume flights after the worldwide grounding in January. The Dreamliner was grounded for three months earlier this year amid concerns about overheating lithium-ion batteries.
Boeing shares fell sharply on the New York Stock Exchange after news broke of the incident.
