A Sukhoi Superjet 100 jetliner prototype made a belly-landing at Iceland's Keflavik Airport on Sunday July 21, at 05.25 local time during flight tests. The aircraft with tail number 97005 touched the runway with retracted landing gears.
The aircraft was in its final stage of test flights to evaluate Sukhoi Superjet's performance of automatic landing system to execute CAT III A with strong crosswind conditions as part of additional certification trials on expanding operational envelope. The tests also included single-engine approaches.
There were three crew members, and two certification experts onboard. One certification center expert injured his leg during evacuation, but the other four people aboard were unharmed, the Sukhoi statement said.
Sukhoi's Superjet program suffered a setback in 2012, when one of the jets crashed during a demonstration flight in Indonesia . All 45 people on the flight were killed.
The Superjet made its debut in 2011, becoming the first civilian passenger jet developed in Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
