Airbus Helicopters completed the retrofit of 12 German Tiger attack helicopters to their ASGARD configuration following the delivery of last one to the 36 Combat Helicopter Regiment, during a ceremony at its Donauwörth, Germany production facility.

The ASGARD (Afghanistan Stabilization German Army Rapid Deployment) program was launched in late 2011 by Airbus Helicopters and the German Defense Ministry to retrofit Tiger UHTs to operate in harsh and adverse climatic conditions in Afghanistan during missions to protect ground troops and convoys.

ASGARD conversion included installation of engine sand filters and additional ballistic protection, along with the incorporation of a mission data recorder and enhanced communication equipment for multinational missions.

The German forces in Afghan began fielding its ASGARD modified Tiger UHTs from December 2012, and to date has clocked more than 1,000 flight hours.

Powered by two MTU Turbomeca Rolls-Royce MTR390 turboshaft engines, the Tiger UTH is a two-seat attack helicopter designed to conduct day and night surveillance and ground troop support missions.
