Airbus Defence and Space unveiled its PZL 130 Orlik MPT-Multi Purpose Trainer aircraft, a new version of the twin-seat aircraft with glass cockpit upgrade. The aircraft was unveiled during a ceremony in Warsawa Okeçie factory, to a senior audience of the Polish administration and armed forces.
Orlik MPT is a upgraded Orlik TC II Garmin, already in service with the Polish Air Force, which entered service in 2000. The glass cockpit upgrade has improved pilot training, including basic tactical training and lead-in to combat training.
In September 2011, Airbus and the Air Force Institute of Technology, with other Polish institutions signed the agreements to upgrade the Orlik TC II to the new MPT standard.
The first generation Orlik, entered into service in 1993. It is currently powered by Pratt &Whitney PT625C (559 KW/750 SHP) turboprop engine with four bladed Hartzell propeller. The Orlik MPT is entering the test phase, with first flight scheduled for march, in preparation for certification by the Polish airworthiness authority ULC.
Orlik MPT features a low-wing, two seat stepped cockpit, hydraulically actuated, retractable, tricycle landing gear system designed to allow absorbing high energy of unskilled heavy student's landings and Martin-Baker Mk 11L ejection seats.
