Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, operating a Boeing 777-200ER went missing on Saturday. The airplane lost contact with Subang Air Traffic Control at 2.40am, within two hours into the six hour flight.
The flight bounded for Beijing, departed Kuala Lumpur at 12.41 am earlier this morning. The aircraft was scheduled to land at Beijing International Airport at 6.30am local Beijing time.
The flight was carrying a total number of 239 passengers and crew – comprising 227 passengers (including 2 infants), 12 crew members. The passengers were of 14 different nationalities, including 152 people from China, 38 from Malaysia and 12 from Indonesia.
Malaysia and Vietnam is conducting a joint search and rescue operations. China has also sent two maritime rescue ships. The flight was operating under a codeshare agreement with China Southern Airlines.
The flight was piloted by Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, a Malaysian aged 53, with a total flying hours of 18,365 hours and First officer, Fariq Ab.Hamid, a Malaysian, is aged 27. He has a total flying hours of 2,763 hours.
The aircraft registrated 9M-MRO, was delivered new to Malaysia Airlines on 31 May 2002. The aircraft was powered by 2 Rolls-Royce Trent 800 engines. The aircraft had an incident free history prior to its disappear.
