Pakistan has requested a $100 million deal with US to upgrade its Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules airlifter fleet.

The modernization will increase its C-130B/E fleet life by 10-15 years which is facing airworthiness and obsolescence issues.

The deal consists avionics upgrade, engine management and mechanical upgrades, cargo delivery system installation, and replacement of outer wing sets on six aircrafts and spare and training supports.

PAF's C-130 fleet consists five C-130B and eleven C-130E models, which were inducted from 1960s.
The aircraft is capable of operating from rough and semi-prepared airstrips.

India has inducted six of the latest C-130J variant for its special forces and has finalised deal for another six.
