The second deployment of the Bluefin-21 Autonomous Underwater Vehicle to assist in search for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 last night from ADV Ocean Shield, also ended in failure following a technical snag.

Bluefin was forced to resurface this morning to rectify the technical issue. While on deck, its data was downloaded for analysis.

Bluefin-21 was then redeployed and it is currently continuing its underwater search. Initial analysis of the data downloaded this morning indicates no significant detections.

First mission on Monday was also aborted, when the unmanned sub exceeded its operating depth of 4,500 metres.

Today Australian Maritime Safety Authority carried out a visual search area totalling approximately 55,151 square kilometres using up to 11 military aircraft, three civil aircraft and 11 ships. The centre of the search areas lies approximately 2,087 kilometres north west of Perth.
