Diehl Defence is offering the 70 mm GILA (Guided Intelligent Light Armament) guided rocket for German Tiger attack helicopters, to augment its precision air-to-ground capability.

Diehl says GILA can be integrated on to Tiger without additional modifications and can be fired from the Tiger´s current 70 mm launcher.

Diehl said, GILA will improve asymmetric mission capability, e.g. in urban environments, were precision, inflight mission abort capability and low collateral damage are important.

GILA rocket is based on the Israeli Elbit's GATR (Guided Advanced Tactical Rocket) rocket which has a 8km range.
GILA homes onto target with its Semi-Active Laser (SAL) seeker which detects laser radiation reflected from the target. The laser target illuminator can be onboard or off-board such as from ground troops or other airborne platforms.

GILA can effectively engage soft or lightly armored stationary or fast-moving targets.

The German company said, if procured, extensive work shares would lie with it, such as production of the guidance and control section, final assembly of the guided rocket, simulation software as well as helicopter integration and logistics.
