US Defense Department has approved a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of Beechcraft AT-6C Texan II light attack aircrafts to Iraq.
The $790 million deal consists associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support.
The Beechcraft AT-6C features a hard-point wing, an integrated glass cockpit, with intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and light attack capabilities.
The aircraft will be mainly used for counter insurgency roles, with AT-6C having considerable precision strike capabilities. Iraq already operates the T-6A trainer to train pilots.
The sale consists 24 AT-6C aircrafts, 2 spare PT-6A-68 Turboprop engines, 2 spare ALE-47 Counter-Measure Dispensing Systems and/or 2 spare AAR-47 Missile Launch Detection Systems, non-SAASM global positioning systems with CMA-4124, spare and repair parts, maintenance.
