U.S. Defense Department has approved a Foreign Military Sale of short range AIM 9X-2 Sidewinder air to air missiles and associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support worth $534 million.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified U.S. Congress of this possible sale on May 13, 2014.
Australia has requested up to 350 AIM-9X-2 Sidewinder Tactical Missiles, 35 AIM-9X Special Air Training Missiles (NATMs), 95 AIM-9X-2 Captive Air Training Missiles (CATMs), 22 AIM-9X-2 Tactical Guidance Units, 19 CATM-9X-2 Guidance Units, 3 DATM-9X.
These missiles will equip RAAF’s F/A-18 fighter aircrafts and eventually the F-35 fighters in future.
