The airplane- 747-8 Intercontinental is the third generation 747 featuring lengthened fuselage, redesigned wings, and improved efficiency. This is the 14th 747-8 delivered to Lufthansa and will join into its long-haul fleet.
Lufthansa is the launch customer of the 747-8 and took delivery of its first airplane in April 2012. The airline has 19 747-8s on order.
At the delivery ceremony on Saturday , a special logo commemorating the 1,500th airplane was revealed.
The 747-8 is offered in two main variants: the 747-8 Intercontinental (747-8I) for passengers and the 747-8 Freighter (747-8F) for cargo.
The wide-body Boeing 747-8 is the longest passenger aircraft in the world. The two 747-8 variants feature a fuselage stretch of 18.3 ft (5.6 m) over the 747-400, bringing the total length to 250 ft 2 in (76.25 m).
It can carry up to 467 passengers in a typical three-class configuration over 8,000 nmi (15,000 km) at Mach 0.855.
It is powered by four General Electric GEnx turbofan engines and is the only engine option available.
