The stretched Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner has been certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for entry into service.

The certification was awarded following a comprehensive flight test program using five aircraft, logging more than 1,500 flight test hours, plus ground and laboratory testing.

The FAA has also granted Boeing an Amended Production Certificate, validating Boeing's 787-9 production system.

The 787-9 features a fuselage stretch by 20 feet (6 meters) over the current 787-8, enabling to carry up to 40 more passengers an additional 300 nautical miles (555 km) with the same 20 percent less fuel burn and 20 percent fewer emissions.

The first 787-9 will be delivered to Air New Zealand later this year, which was unveiled in April 2014.

The 787-9 features the large windows, large stow bins, modern LED lighting, higher humidity, a lower cabin altitude, cleaner air and a smoother ride as in 787-8.

Boeing 787-9 accounts for 40 percent of 787 order book with 413 orders from 26 airlines.
