Pro Russian rebels have shot down a Ukrainian Air Force Ilyushin IL-76 transport plane while landing at the airport in Luganskusing anti-aircraft machine guns according Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
The crash killed 49 military personnels. The IL-76 was transporting military personnel, machinery, equipment and supplies on the night of 13 June Friday, local time.

The plane was flying at low altitude at low speed as it descended for touch down, making it easier to shoot down.

The Ukrainian Air Force operates as many as 100 IL-76, inherited from the Soviet Air Force.
