Major British aerospace companies have evinced interest to partner in the Indian Regional Civil Aircraft program with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.

Ms Carole Sweeney, Director of UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) has assured the HAL delegation at a business meeting at the on-going Farnborough International Air Show (July 14 to 20) that UK industries would do their best in their known areas of expertise and skills to develop the passenger plane.
Some of the key representatives from UK industries included ADS Group, Aircraft Research Association, Cobham, Cranfield University, Meggitt, Rolls Royce, Stirling Dynamics, Ultra Controls, UTAS, UK-India Business Council.

HAL Chairman Dr. R.K. Tyagi said, the RFP for the engine of the RCA will be issued shortly, for which 11 bidders have already responded to the recent RFI issued for the aircraft engine.


The 70-90 seat turboprop or jet powered aircraft would be manufactured in India with an expected roll-out by 2022.

HAL and National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) have taken the lead to build the aircraft. HAL said it expect to produce around 400 aircraft.

The aircraft is meant to ply short-haul routes and compete with Franco-Italian turboprop aircraft maker ATR.
