The deal was first announced as a commitment during 777X's official launch at the 2013 Dubai Airshow. With the deal, Emirates will be the largest operator and launch customer for 777X.
The order consists 115 larger 777-9Xs and 35 777-8Xs, with first delivery targeted to 2020. To date, the 777X has accumulated 300 orders and commitments from six customers worldwide.
The deal also includes purchase rights for an additional 50 777Xs, bringing the deal value to $75 billion, if exercised.
Currently, the design of 777X is underway and production is set to begin in 2017.
The Boeing 777X is an evolution of the successful wide-body 777 jetliner, according to market needs and customer preferances and will directly compete with the Airbus A350 XWB jetliner.
The aircraft will feature an advanced GE9X engine and an all-new high efficiency composite wing that has a longer span than present 777, providing a 12 percent lower fuel consumption and 10 percent lower operating costs than the competition.
The Boeing 777X family includes the 777-8X and the 777-9X. The 777-9X will have the lowest operating cost per seat of any commercial airplane. It will offer a range of 8,200 nautical miles (15,185 km) while seating more than 400 passengers. The 777-8X will compete directly with the Airbus A350-1000, featuring an incredible range of up to 9,300 nautical miles (17,220 km) with seating for 350 passengers.
Emirates now has 208 Boeing 777s on order and operates the largest fleet of 138 777, accounting for more than one in every 10 777s aircraft built.
In a unexpected move in June, Emirates cancelled a $16 billion order with European rival Airbus for 70 of Airbus A350s.
