Pratt & Whitney's PurePower geared turbofan (GTF) engine family has completed nearly 10,000 hours and 19,000 cycles of full engine testing, including 1,400 hours of flight time.
Testing continues to validate the Geared Turbofan™ engine's fan drive gear system in harsh environments while conducting strict, regulated trial runs.
P&W has now tested 50 Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines builds since initiating testing in September 2010.
Dave Brantner, president, Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines said "P & W's engine architecture technology is robust and makes it the most mature of the new generation of commercial engines with nearly 10,000 hours of combined ground and flight testing."
The PW1100G-JM engine for the Airbus A320neo family now includes a 2 percent fuel burn enhancement on top of the 15 percent fuel savings the engine already offers. The PW1100G-JM engine has completed over 80 percent of certification testing requirements and is on track to certify on schedule. Airbus recently unveiled the first completed A320neo.
Mitsubishi has also completed integration PW1200 engine on its MRJ regional jet.
P&W has delivered PW1500G powerplants for five CSeries aircraft. Currently the CSeries fleet is grounded following a Low Pressure Turbine failure onboard the engine. The incident is under investigation.
P&W GTF engines will also power Irkut MS-21 and Embraer E-Jet regional aircraft platforms.
