British GKN Aerospace has entered into risk and revenue sharing partnership (RRSP) with the Pratt & Whitney to supply key components for the PurePower PW1900 Geared Turbofan™ (GTF) engine that will power the Embraer 190 and the 195-E2 narrow body, medium range airliners.

The agreement gives GKN, a 7 percent share in the engine program and could be worth approximately $2.5bn over the life of the program, subject to engine sales.

Under the RRSP agreement, GKN Aerospace Engine Systems will have responsibility for the design and manufacture of the turbine exhaust case (TEC) and intermediate compressor case (IMC) for the PW1900G engine along with the manufacture of the engine’s low pressure turbine (LPT) shaft and fan case mount rings.

GKN will also has responsibility for cross-program production of the same set of structures for the PW1700G engine which will power the Embraer 175-E2.

GKN secured first GTF RRSP with Pratt & Whitney in 2008, for a similar set of components for the PW1100G-JM engine which will equip the Airbus A320neo, the PW1500G engine, certified for the Bombardier CSeries and the PW1200G engine, which Pratt & Whitney is certifying for the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ).

This component commonality across the GTF engine family, speeds development, simplifies certification and eases maintenance for Pratt & Whitney and its operator customers.

The components will be manufactured at GKN Aerospace’s facilities in Sweden, Norway and Connecticut, USA. First delivery of development parts is scheduled to take place early in 2015.
