U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has certified the International Aero Engines V2500®-E5 engine for Embraer’s under development KC-390 aircraft.
The V2500-E5 turbofan engine is the military version of the proven V2500 engine which powers the Airbus A320 aircraft family and Boeing MD-90 airliner.

The V2500-E5 engine, rated at 31,330 pounds of thrust, was selected in July 2011 by Embraer and Brazilian Air Force.
The engine has maximum commonality with the V2500 and changes have been made to optimize installation with the new airframe. The V2500® two-shaft high-bypass turbofan engine family has a thrust ranging from 22,000 to 33,000 lbs.

IAE provides a fully integrated propulsion system, including the V2500-E5 engine and nacelle with engine build-up and nacelle installations supported by UTC Aerospace Systems’ Aerostructures business.

In May, IAE announced the shipment of the first six prototype V2500-E5 engines to power KC-390 prototypes.
Brazilizn Air Force is the launch customer for KC-390.The KC-390 is a joint project of the Brazilian Air Force with Embraer to develop and produce a tactical military transport/tanker aircraft. The entry into service scheduled in 2016.
IAE is a multinational aero engine consortium whose shareholders comprise Pratt & Whitney, Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines. To date, more than 6,000 V2500 engines have been delivered to close to 200 customers around the world.
