U.S. has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of AGM-158A Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles (JASSM) to Poland to extend the ground penetration capabilities of its F-16 Block 52+ fighters.

The stealthy cruise missiles will bolster Poland's defence and deterrence in wake of the crisis in Ukraine. Its 250 mile range allows to strike targets in Russia from within the Polish border.
Under the $500 million contract, Poland has requested a sale of 40 AGM-158A missiles, 2 AGM-158A JASSM Live with Test Instrumentation Kit (TIK) and Flight Termination Systems (FTS), 2 AGM-158A JASSM Inert with TIK and FTS, and 2 Flight Certification Test Vehicles.

The deal also include Operational Flight Plan upgrade to M6.5 tape for the Polish F-16C/D Block 52 aircraft to include JASSM integration, associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support.

The Modular Mission Computer (MMC)-based architecture of the F-16 allows for evolution and continuously improving OFP product.

The 2000 pound JASSM can cruise autonomously in adverse weather, day or night, using a advanced infrared seeker. It is designed to destroy high-value, well-defended, fixed and relocatable targets, JASSM’s significant standoff range keeps aircrews well out of danger from hostile air defense systems.
The AGM-158A is powered by a Teledyne CAE J402 turbojet. Before flight the wings are kept folded to reduce size. Upon launch the wings flip out automatically.

Poland acquired 48 Block 52 F-16C/Ds, currently the most advanced F-16s operating with NATO.
