Airbus Defence and Space is seeking civil type certification for its Atlante unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

Airbus Defence and Space is seeking civil type certification for its Atlante unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

Airbus has formally submitted its application to the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

The multi role uav can perform civil roles such as surveillance of oil pipes, powerlines, railways, natural disasters, forest fires or sporting events.
The Atlante is a 570 kg, single-engined, propeller-powered UAV with a wingspan of eight metres.

Maiden flight of the first prototpe was completed on 28th, February 2013. The second example recently made its first flight.

The ATLANTE can carrying out both civil and military missions, such as urban and rural surveillance, search rescue operations. It can operate from prepared runways or can be launched from catapults.
The tactical UAV was completely developed in Spain, launched by the Spanish Centre for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI). It can carry a payload of up to 100kg, and can stay airborne for more than 10 hours, continously.
