India's newly launched Vistara airline, a joint venture between Tata and Singapore Airlines, unveiled its first Airbus A320 painted in airline's livery, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.
The livery has a rendition of the eight-pointed star in aubergine and gold – the brand colours – on its tail and the brand name on its sides.

The unveiling also marked the 82nd anniversary of founder JRD Tata’s first commercial flight from Karachi to Mumbai.

The logo in aubergine and gold reflects the core values and philosophy of brand Vistara i.e. excellence, innovation, thoughtfulness, teamwork and trust.
The brand name of the airline, Vistara is derived from the Sanskrit word, ‘Vistaar’, which means ‘limitless expanse’, and draws inspiration from the brand’s domain -- the ‘limitless’ sky.

The logo is derived from a ‘yantra’, a perfect mathematical form that reflects the unbounded universe. Its fluid interconnecting lines reflect the seamless experience the airline wants to offer its customers. The eight-pointed star at the centre of the logo reflects the high standards Vistara is committed to and the excellence that will be a hallmark of the airline.

The brand new aircraft is the first of 20 A320 Family aircraft to be leased from BOC Aviation, Asia’s leading aircraft operating lessor.

The A320 aircraft with the new “Sharklets” large wingtip devices reduce fuel burn by 4% and increase payload-range performance of the A320 family by 100 nm.

The airline is expected to commence operations this month.
The Tata group had a long history of close association with Indian civil aviation sector. The Group chairman JRD Tata founded India's first commercial airline, Tata Airlines in 1932, which was nationalised and became the national carrier Air India.
Tata made an unsuccessful attempt to launch an domestic airline in the 1990s, when the sector was opened up for private companies along with the same Singapore Airlines.

Tata also has 30 percent stake in the low cost carrier Air Asia India, launched in June 2014.
