KAI deliver KT-1P trainer to Peru

Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) has delivered the first two KT-1P turboprop trainer aircraft to Peru.


Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) has delivered the first two KT-1P turboprop trainer aircraft to Peru.

The first batch of 2 units is among the total 20 KT-1Ps for which KAI has signed a contract worth approximately $200 million with Peru in November 2012.

Under an offset program, KAI will produce 16 units of the total 20 KT-1Ps in the local joint production factory in Peru and deliver them to the Peruvian Air Force.

In November 2013, KAI completed the local production base in the Peru's air force unit, situated at Las Palmas, Peru and dispatched its technicians there to teach the local workers about the production education, preparing for the local joint production.

With the assistance of the Korean Air Force, KAI has trained the Peruvian Air Force's pilots and repairmen since a deal with Peru. The first locally produced airplane will be rolled out around August next year.
The KT-1P will replace the existing old and superannuated EMB-312 and MB-339, manufactured by Brazil or Italy and operated by its Air Force.its Air Force with the KT-1P. The plan calls to fully deploy the KT-1P to its Air Force by 2016.

With a maximum weight of 5,600 lbs (2.54 t), KT-1P is powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 turboprop engine rated at 950 hp (max 1,150 hp) and has 350kt (648km/h, 403mph) speed and can undergo G-limit of -3.5/+7.0g.
