Northrop Grumman has delivered the first engineering, manufacturing and development (EMD) phase APG-83 Scalable Agile Beam Radar (SABR) to Lockheed Martin.

The APG-83 SABR Active Electronic Scanned Array (AESA) radar is integral to Lockheed Martin' F-16 Radar Modernization program for U.S. and Taiwan Air Force F-16 upgrade programs.

The radar is slated for Taiwanese F-16V upgrade, replacing Northrop’s mechanically-scanned APG-68. The delivery comes within 16 months of contract award.

The EMD radar is identical to the production configuration. The SABR features AESA technologies developed for Northrop’s APG-77 radar installed on the Lockheed F-22 and APG-81 onboard the F-35, offering simultaneous air-to-air and air-to-ground search and track capability.
