South Korean Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has announced its selection of Israel Aerospace Industries' (IAI) Heron-1 Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) for the corps-level UAV upgrade project.
The deal for undisclosed no of UASs will enhance Seoul's surveillance capability over North Korea.
With a wingspan of 17 metres, the 1.1 tonne Israeli built Heron RPA can conduct operations in excess of 24 hours, with a maximum speed of more than 100 knots (180 km/h) and at altitudes of up to 10,000 metres.
