After the successful lifting of the tail of the AirAsia flight QZ8501 from Java Sea bottom, the divers will attempt today to retrieve the Black Box of the airplane which has been located with the help of pings.

Floating balloons capable of lifting 35 tonnes were used to fish out the tail.

The search team also located a large hole in the bottom of the sea, which is believed to be as result of collision of the plane into the sea.
The Black Box retrieval would be challenging task as it is wedged between the wreckage and covered in mud, more over the pings has a range of only 500 metres.

The shallow depth of Java Sea has aided in wreckage finding and retrieval process as the sea has a mean depth of 46 metres (151 feet)and almost uniform sea bottom flatness. In case of the Air France Flight 447 crash in 2009, the Black Box was retrieved almost 2 years after the crash.
