In just two weeks, equity crowd funders have reserved shares for more than $4 million via startengine.com/startup/xti to support development of to develop the TriFan 600 fixed-wing airplane designed to fly with the speed, range, and comfort of a business jet and the ability to take off and land like a helicopter.

XTI Aircraft Company (XTI) is pioneering the first use of crowdfunding for commercial airplane development, and at the same time continuing its engineering work on the TriFan 600.

The general public's opportunity to become shareholders is time-limited, with individual reservations ranging from $250 to over $200,000.

In development for over two years, the six-seat TriFan 600 is being designed and developed to become the first commercially certified high-speed, long-range vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) airplane to provide true door-to-door travel.

Using the three ducted fans, the TriFan 600 lifts off vertically. In seconds, the two wing fans rotate forward for a seamless transition to high-speed flight. And within just 90 seconds, the aircraft reaches cruising speed – where, just like every other fixed-wing airplane, the wings provide lift.

The fuselage-mounted fan, no longer needed, closes up. The airplane flies directly to its destination and reverses the process, landing vertically right where it needs to be – over a clear helipad sized paved surface.

The design seems to be less ambitious than the Terrafugia's TF-X VTOL flying car.
