Enhancing coalition force firepower against ISIS, Iraqi Air Force employed its latest generation F-16IQ fighters jets to attack ISIS positions for the first time.

The jets struck ISIS positions north of the capital city in Salaheddin and Kirkuk provinces with precision ammunitions.

Fifteen airstrikes have been carried out by the jets since their combat debut on 2 September, Wednesday.

The first four jets, part of the 36 ordered, arrived at the Balad Air Base in July 2015. 



The much need Iraqi ground attack capability will be further boosted, with arrival of the first batch of AeroVodochody L-159 light attack aircraft from Czech later this year. Iraq had contracted to acquire 15 of the surplus Czech fighters under a $30 million deal.

IQAF is also employing its twelve Su-25 close air support aircraft, Mi-35 and Mi-28 attack helicopter fleets to destroy ISIS positions.
