Airbus Helicopter is continuing flight test of its new generation H160 medium lift helicopter, with the first prototype (PT1) having already reached a maximum speed of 175 kts and an altitude of 10 000 feet.

The PT1 has clocked 30 flight test hours since maiden flight in June 2015.

AH will shortly begin ground trials of the exclusive powerplant Turbomeca Arrano engines installed on the dedicated integration installation test rig called the Dynamic Helicopter Zero before the second prototype (PT2) fitted with new flight test engines, performs its first flight by the end of this year.

Due to a last minute decision to discard the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW210 engine, the first prototype was powered by the PWC engine.

Key priority of the program is to deliver a mature helicopter when it enters service in 2018.

The 5.5 to 6-tonne twin-engine helicopter will be tailored for a wide range of applications, including oil & gas operations, emergency medical services, public service, and private and business aviation.

The fully composite H160, feature Airbus patented BlueEdge rotors, the cut exterior noise level by 50 percent and enable payload increase of upto 100 kg.
