Korean Aerospace Industries has successfully carried out maiden flight of the KT-100 turboprop trainer aircraft on Oct 5.

The flight lasting one hour and twenty minutes, was carried out from Sacheon Airport, South Gyeongsang.

KT-100 is a modified trainer variant of KAI KC-100 light transport aircraft. The aircraft is equipped with additional features required for military trainers like friend or foe identification system and video voice recorder.

KAI was awarded the KT-100 development contract by Defense Acquisiton Program Administraon (DAPA), in December 2014, according to which the maiden delivery along with full support equipment to be completed by 2016 end.

South Korean Air Force (ROKAF) has ordered 23 of the type to replace its fleet of 22 Ilyushin Il-103 trainers at ROK Air Force Academy.

The KT-100 is built from carbon fibre and features gull-wing doors. It is powered by a Continental TSIOF-550-K turbocharged 315 hp (235 kW) piston engine, controlled by FADEC, driving a four blade propeller. The four seat aircraft is equipped with anti-icing system, air conditioning and a optional full-plane parachute system.

Other features include 2-axis fully digital auto pilot, fixed tricycle landing gear, dual redundant flight control system (mechanical and electrical) and Avidyne avionics system.
