Russia has successfully test launched its RS-24 Yars intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), equipped with multiple reentry warhead (MIRV), from a silo launcher in the Plesetsk State Test Cosmodrome, today.
A joint combat crew of the Strategic Missile Forces and the Aerospace Force conducted the Yars ICBM launch, which has a range of 11,000 km range.
The warheads reached a predetermined area, around 6000 km away on the Kura testing range in the Kamchatka Peninsula.
The test missile selected from production lot, confirmed the reliability of the type produced by JSC “Votkinsky zavod”.
Capable of evading anti-missile system, the Yars was first test launched in 2007. Weighing 49 tonne, the 20 m long, 2 m diameter missile can carry at least 4 MIRVs and has inertial with Glonass guidance system.
The Kozelsk missile formation is equipped with missiles of this type.
