U.S. State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale of  nine Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk Utility Helicopters to Saudi Arabia.

The $495 million deal also include associated equipment, parts and logistical support.

The equipment list include 21 GE T700-GE-701D turboshaft engines (18 installed and 3 spares), 20 Embedded Global Positioning Systems with Inertial Navigation System (GPS/INS) (18 installed and 2 spares), 12  BAE Systems AN/AAR-57 Common Missile Warning Systems (CMWS) (9 installed and 3 spares) and 20 M240H 7.62mm Machine Guns.

The Royal Saudi Land Forces Aviation Command (RSLFAC) plans to use these helicopters for search and rescue, disaster relief, humanitarian support, counter terrorism, and combat operations.

Saudi currently operates a fleet of Black Hawks, which have been deployed with the Saudi led Arab coalition fighting the houthi rebels in Yemen.

The UH-60M is the latest variant of the Black Hawk which entered service with U.S. Army in 1979. The rugged versatile, multi mission helicopter has a maximum gross weight of 10 tonne and  can cruise at a speed of 280 km/h with a maximum range of 500 km.
