UAE based Tawazun Precision Industries(TPI) and Italian Alenia Aermacchi, has signed a supply agreement to cooperate on civil aero-structural components.

The work package agreement envisages the supply of four aluminum structural parts of the Franco-Italian ATR-72 regional turboprop passenger aircraft. It represents the first step for a long-term partnership between the two companies in the field of manufacturing aero-structural components.

Recently, TPI has successfully delivered to Alenia Aermacchi the first series of components manufactured in the UAE. The collaboration represents a significant step for the UAE's aerospace industry and demonstrates TPI’s competences to introduce new certified metallic components manufacturing.

The agreement is part of the offset in UAE's acquisition of 10 Alenia Aermacchi MB-339A jet trainer aircraft for the United Arab Emirates Air Force “Al Fursan” (The Knights) aerobatic display team.

The team debuted at the 2011 Dubai Air Show.

The ATR-72 comes with 72 seats in standard configuration, and is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW127M turboprop engines. The aircraft has lower fuel and maintenance cost than the rival Bombardier Q400.
