Swedish Saab has signed a contract with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to supply two improved version of Erieye airborne surveillance system worth $ 1.27 billion, during the Dubai Airshow.

The deal also include upgrading UAE Air Force's two existing Saab 340 based Erieye Airborne Early Warning (AEW) systems, which were delivered in 2011.

Saab will deliver the new airborne Swing Role Surveillance System (SRSS) incorporating a new version of the Saab Erieye radar system, which will feature the latest gallium nitride (GaN) technology.

The SRSS will be capable of simultaneous detection and tracking of multiple targets in the air, on land and at sea. The system consist an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar above the fuselage, a maritime radar on the belly and a Electro Optical/Infrared sensor below the forward fuselage.

The work will be carried out at Saab's facilities in Gothenburg, Linköping, Järfälla, Arboga and Luleå.
