Hybrid airship Airlander 10 successfully completed maiden flight on Wednesday, over Cardington Airfield in Bedfordshire.
The maiden flight originally scheduled for Sunday, was abandoned following a technical glitch.
At 302 ft, the helium filled blimp is the longest and the largest aircraft in the world. The short flight was piloted by David Burns and Simon Davies.
Christened the Martha Gwyn in April, the Airlander 10 is designed to stay airborne for up to five days at a time to fulfil a wide range of communication and survey roles, as well as cargo carrying and tourist passenger flights.
Airlander is powered by four 350 hp V8 diesel engines, located, with two engines in the forward of hull and two in the stern. Thrust from all engines can be vectored for takeoff/landing/ground handling operations.
The airship will now undergo 200 hours of test flights over a number of months, ahead of a series of trials and demonstrations to prospective customers.
