A Russian Air Force Mi-8 military helicopter was shot down over Syria, in the idlib province while carrying out a humanitarian mission on Monday.

The Ambulance configured Mi-8AMTSh assault transport helicopter was shot down by rebels while returning after delivering food and medical supplies to the inhabitants of Aleppo.

There were three crew members and two officers, all of whom were killed in the crash.

This is the fifth aircraft loss for Russian armed forces since intervention in the Syrian Civil War in September 2015.

A total of four helicopters and one fighter jet were lost, which included an Mi-8, Mi-25, Mi-24 helicopters and a Su-24 fighter jet killing around ten military personnel, most of them pilots.

The Mi-8AMTSh is armed with guns and rocket pods, along with self protection systems to carry out combat search and rescue, troop and cargo transport missions in hostile environments.
