French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) has selected Thales Spy Ranger mini surveillance and reconnaissance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to equip the French forces.
From 2018 on wards, Thales will deliver up to 210 of these backpack transportable tactical surveillance UAVs.

The rail launched SpyRanger is capable of day and night surveillance missions with a endurance of 2 hour 30 minutes covering a distance of up to 30 km.With a wingspan of 3.80 m and a weight of 14.5 kg, the SpyRanger can be launched with in 12 minutes by a team of two operators.

It is equipped with a gyro-stabilized multi-sensor optronic payload capable of high resolution imagery which can be live transmitted to the ground control.

The SpyRanger will replace the hand launched DRAC UAV operated by French Army since 2008.
