A Malaysia bound AirAsia X Airbus A330 passenger jet was forced to return to Perth, Australia after its cabin experienced violent shaking in-flight.

The Air Asia X Flight D7237 departed Perth at 6.50 am (AWST) for Kuala Lumpur. One and half hour into the flight, the cabin started to jerk.

The aircraft started to shake after an explosion was heard by passengers from the left engine. Shortly after Captain declared emergency and announced one of the aircraft engine had seized.

The A330 carrying 359 passengers, returned back to Perth and landed safely at 10:00 am.

Upon inspection, it was revealed that one of two Rolls Royce Trent 700 engine had lost a turbine blade which caused the rotational imbalance.

The Airbus A330-300 with registration 9M-XXE was delivered in 2009.
