Israeli Elbit Systems introduced its new SkyStriker loitering munition at the 2017 Paris Air Show in Le Bourget.
The remotely operated precision guided Loitering Munition(LM) is designed to seek, locate and engage various targets for the tactical level corps.
Weighing 35 kg (77 lb), the SkyStriker can carry a munition weighing up to ten kilograms and is powered by a electric motor. The electric propulsion have low acoustic signature and hence enable covert low altitude operations.
It can reach a distance of 10 kilometers within minutes and loiter and observe the target for up to two hours, before delivering a rapid precision air strike.
The remote operator is live streamed with the video from the electro-optical sensor to track and engage the target.
The system also provides significant flexibility such as the ability to choose any target, to engage at any direction and in various angles (shallow to steep).
The operator can also abort the strike up to two seconds to the impact, and assign another target or command return home.
Elbit becomes the second Israeli company to develop an loitering munition. Israeli Aerospace Industries have already developed and delivered the Harpy, Harop loitering munitions and recently the Green Dragon.
