Boeing has secured order for its last white tail C-17 Globemaster II strategic airlifter, produced before shutting down its production line in 2015.

U.S. State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale of a Boeing C-17 military transport aircraft to India.

The aircraft will add to the 10 strong C-17 fleet operated by Indian Air Force, currently the largest operator of the type outside United States.

The contract estimated at $366.2 million also include AN/AAR-47 Missile Warning System, AN/ALE-47 Countermeasures Dispensing System (CMDS), AN/APX-119 Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) Transponder, precision navigation equipment for aircraft and spare and repair parts, maintenance and support.

The aircraft will further augment India’s capability to meet current and future strategic airlift requirements for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HA/DR) in addition to providing more rapid strategic combat airlift capabilities for its armed forces.

India intended to purchase six additional C-17s, but delay in decision resulted in non availability of the aircraft. Boeing closed its C-17 Long Beach, California production line in 2015, after completing all orders, in addition to building 10 white tail aircraft.

The aircraft is not the last production C-17, which was delivered to Qatar in early 2016. It has been under storage in Texas since production in 2015.
