Royal Air Force of Oman has taken delivery of its first of two Eurofighter Typhoon swing role combat jets, becoming the 7th operator of type.

Eurofighters arrived at the Adam Air Base on Wednesday and was received by Commander of the Royal Air Force of Oman - Air Vice-Marshal Mattar bin Ali bin Mattar Al Obaidani.

Oman signed a £2.5 billion ($4.1 billion) deal with BAE Systems to acquire 12 Eurofighters and 8 BAE Hawk advanced trainer jets in December 2012.

The 12 jet order include 9 single seat fighters and 3 twin seat fighter/trainer variants.

With the delivery, Oman become the second operator of the type in the Middle East region after Saudi Arabia. Saudi received its last of the 72 Eurofighter ordered, early this month. Kuwait has also signed a contract for 28 Tranche 3 Eurofighters in 2016.

The delivery follows an official roll-out event held on 15 May 2017 at BAE Systems’ site at Warton, UK, during which the first Typhoon and Hawk aircraft were formally presented to the customer.

Eurofighter Typhoon can carry up to 6 bombs whilst also carrying six missiles, a cannon and a targeting pod, demonstrating its true multi-role capability.
