An F-16D aircraft of U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds aerobatic team overturned after landing at the Dayton International Airport runway.

The incident happened at approximately 12:20 pm, Friday, after a single-ship familiarization flight in preparation for the Dayton Air Show, held from June 24-25.

The aircraft came to rest in the nearby grass field, upside down. Gust winds over 30 mph speed and heavy rain prevailed in the region and is believed to have caused the incident.

Following the incident, Thunderbirds cancelled their appearance in the show.

The pilot Capt. Erik Gonsalves, and Technical Sgt. Kenneth Cordova on board the twin seat Fighting Falcon where rescued after 90 minutes, with minor injuries.
