XTI Aircraft, Denver based aerospace startup has announced first order for its under-development TriFan 600 Vertical Take Off and Landing aircraft at the concluded Paris Air Show.

Company revealed it has won 3 orders, but did not disclose the customers.

The TriFan 600 is a six seater VTOL aircraft, that combines the range, speed and comfort of a business jet with the VTOL capability of a helicopter. This enable point to point and airport independent operations saving valuable time.

Using three ducted fans, the TriFan 600 lifts off vertically and its two wing fans rotate forward for a seamless transition to cruise speed, at 400 miles an hour and a range of up to 1,600 miles. It can reach 31,000 feet in just ten minutes.

XTI Aircraft is building a two-thirds piloted sub scale of the TriFan 600 as its first prototype or technology demonstrator which is planned to fly in 2018.

During cruise flight, the third aft engine will be concealed by a sliding door

The company has selected Honeywell HTS900 engine for powering the prototype. Honeywell will also provide an additional engine for use in XTI’s Ground Propulsion Test System.

XTI will build an operational propulsion jet stand that will house the Honeywell engine, drive train system, fans and flight controls. Once these important milestones are reached, XTI will complete development of the two-thirds piloted flying prototype.
