The Russian flag carrier Aeroflot placed a repeat order for the Sukhoi SuperJet 100 regional passenger jet, during the MAKS airshow being held in Moscow from July 18-23.
A firm contract for 20 SSJ 100 aircraft was signed between United Aircraft Corp, Aeroflot and the VEB leasing company, in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The order will bring Aeroflot SSJ 100 fleet to 50, currently the largest operator of the type.
The aircraft will be outfitted in a two-class 87-seat layout consisting 12 business class and 75 economy seats, which is standard for Aeroflot’s current SSJ100 fleet.
Delivery will commence in the coming months.
The contract is crucial for Sukhoi to keep it's Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft production line humming as the order for the type has dried up since first delivery in 2011.
