The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has commenced its support to US-led recovery operations following the crash of the U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey in Shoalwater Bay on Saturday, 5 August.

Royal Australian Navy (RAN) survey ship HMAS Melville located the submerged MV-22 wreckage on Aug. 6 using its hydrographic capabilities.
This morning RAN Clearance Diving team arrived in Rockhampton and has since embarked on HMAS Melville via landing craft to commence recovery operations.
Dive team members finalized planning in conjunction with the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6). The dive team plans to commence recovery operations using a remote operating vehicle this evening.
These operations will further survey the aircraft as a prerequisite for diving operations.
Twenty Three of the 26 Marines onboard the aircraft were rescued, while Search and Rescue efforts for the remaining were suspended yesterday.
