A United States military MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was shot down by Houthi rebels, near the capital of Yemen on Sunday October 1.

A video released by Houthi backed Al Masirah TV, shows the rebels, firing a MANPAD possibly the Strela-2 (SA-7) to destroy the Reaper.

The video also shows the Reaper on fire plummeting from the sky, crashing into a residential area.

Even though the Reapers have crashed numerous times, the incident marks the first loss of reaper to hostile enemy ground fire.

The slow moving General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper is a turboprop engine powered armed Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance platform widely operated by US Air Force on armed surveillance missions.
