The second prototype of the Epic E1000 single engine turboprop aircraft has completed maiden flight on January 23 from Epic’s Bend, Oregon base in USA.
The production conforming aircraft FT2, joins the first prototype FT1 flown in 2015, which has clocked more than 500 flight test hours.
The FT2 flight testing will cover interior and cabin functionality as well as the fuel, hydraulic, avionics, navigational and environmental systems.
The E1000 is a six seat aircraft developed from the kit-built Epic LT Dynasty. Powered by a single Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6-67A turboprop aircraft engine de-rated to 1200 HP (895 kW), EP1000 will be the fastest single-engine civil aircraft at its time of introduction.
The remarkable strength of carbon fiber composite technology allows for optimal speed and durability, allowing the E1000 to cruise at over 325 KTAS.
The aircraft features a cantilever low-wing, a 6.6 psi pressurized cabin and a rugged retractable tricycle landing gear.
The cockpit is equipped with Garmin G1000 NXi 3-Screen Avionics Suite.
With a maximum take off weight (MTOW) of 8000 lb, the EP1000 has a range of over 1650 nautical miles carrying a payload of 1100 pounds, when fully-fueled with 288 gallons.
